Television and infra-red cameras
used
on Houcks's Miniature Horse Farm.
Our
barn for the miniature horses has 10 stalls that are 12’ by 12’. If we need extra stalls we divide them in half and have up to 20
stalls. Each 12’ by 12’ stall has an infra-red color
camera in it so we can observe the miniature horses. The cameras are
connected to all of our televisions in the house. No matter where we are in
the house we can observe the miniature horses. This way
we can observe our mares when they are ready for foaling or watch over a
horse that is sick or has colic.
When our mares are ready for foaling
we have halters that are fitted with a transmitter that will send a signal
to us by way of a pager if the mares lies down. We can
then look on the television and see if the mare is foaling or sleeping. When
our mares are foaling we will go to the barn to be there if needed. The device we use is called Breeder Alert. If you
are considering breeding your mares you should look into purchasing Breeder
Alert. Their web site is www.breederalert.com and the phone number is 541-582
2101. Ask for Janet and tell her Janet Houck sent you
there.
